There are three
basic requirements - Education, Experience and Examination - prior
to registration. The first, Education, is usually obtained by satisfactorily
completing an undergraduate or graduate program in architecture and
gaining a professional degree from a program accredited by the Canadian
Architectural Certification Board (CACB). As an alternative, the
apprenticeship route, i.e. successful completion of the Royal Architectural
Institute of Canada (RAIC) Syllabus. (The RAIC is a voluntary national
architectural organization). The Syllabus program is not available
in Quebec.

full-time program that is offered several times each year. Most carpenters
are skilled in all areas of construction, but tend to specialize in
one area.

The Carpentry / Joinery program can provide graduates with the skills
needed to seek employment at the entry level in Carpentry and/or Joinery.

Hats
HardHats was designed and developed with industry consulation. HardHat
provides a 10-week hands-on job skills training in the following:
Welding Electrical Plumbing Carpentry Roofing Sheet metal Mechanical
Framing First aid & job safety training
HardHats is financed by the Ministry of Human Resouces as part of
bhe BC Government's Training for Jobs Program.
To enter the one-year pilot program candidates must be on BC Employment
and Assistance and have an interest and desire to be involved in the
construction trade.....
- Kwantlen
University College
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be awarded
a Certificate in Carpentry/Building Construction. Program length:
8 to 10 months (continuous intake) The purpose of this program is
to provide students with skills and knowledge in the subject area
of building construction. Kwantlen considers the scope and depth of
this program to be appropriate for students entering industry on a
permanent basis.

This ten month Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) program starts in
early September and finishes in late June.
The programs base of topics cover the first year level 1 carpentry
apprenticeship technical training and its major focus is to better
prepare students for employment as carpentry apprentices in the building

This Carpentry program provides graduates with the skills required
to seek employment with a specialization in Carpentry. The skills
and knowledge gained give credit towards a Carpentry Apprenticeship.

This Certificate Program is designed to:
Prepare learners for entry level skilled employment. BC Outcomes data
indicate that ninety percent of CARPENTRY graduates find employment
in the industry According to Work Futures BC Occupational Outlooks
an estimated 2,000 new jobs will open in this trade by 2005.
- Okanagan
University College
The Carpentry/Joinery Entry Level Training Program: provides graduates
with the skills needed to seek employment in carpentry and/or joinery.
This is a full-time 10-month program currently located in Kelowna
B.C. Upon graduation you will receive a certificate of completion
from OUC. In addition, the program is accredited for 1st year carpentry
and joinery technical training for apprenticeship.

College of the Cariboo
This 9-month course is an introduction to the carpentry trade. Students
gain familiarity with the use of handtools, portable power tools and
other equipment/material regularly used by carpenters.

Apprentices who are not members of the Elevator Mechanic Union may
access levels of technical training such as first year Electrical
or the first two levels of the Millwright trade.
They may also be funded for Skills Upgrading courses (80%) that the
employer and ITAC feels are relevant to the completion of an apprenticeship
and the successful challenge of the Certificate of Qualification.

structural shapes and plates in the erection of structural steel for
